I would like to float an idea for a feasibility study. This idea is going to help combat ice accumulation on power lines.
Use rectifiers on long transmission lines to set-up DC current warming loops.
Parasitic I know but keeping the transmission
lines clear & ice free would be life saving.
It would be interesting to know for how long temperatures at the Japanese airports that recorded all time record low temperatures have been recorded for. Airports are among the worst places for artificially high temperature readings due to all the concrete and hot exhaust fumes. I’d assumed that it was now impossible for airports with temperature data going back at least 50-60 years to set all time low temperature records as they’re now much bigger and busier hence they’ll be at least 3 degrees more artificial warming compared with the 1960’s or even earlier. The same will be true for urban areas so I wonder what the chances are of major cities with a century or more of temperature data ever recording a new all time low temperature.
